In 2019 Casey McQuiston released their debut novel, Red, White, and Royal Blue, to near-immediate success. The story follows the enemies to friends to lovers story of Alex Claremont-Diaz, First Son of the United States of America, and Prince Henry of Wales after a catastrophic PR nightmare forces them to cooperate.
The novel enchanted readers all over the world, sparking a viral popularity that spread across BookTok, BookStagram, and BookTube. So it was no surprise when in the fall of 2021 it was announced that Amazon Studios would be adapting the beloved novel into a film.
After a surprise announcement via McQuiston's Instagram page at the beginning of Pride Month, the casting has been officially announced. Our Alex Claremont-Diaz and Prince Henry will be played by Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine respectively.
This is not the first time Galitzine has played a royal, he starred alongside Camila Cabello, as Prince Robert in the 2021 Cinderella movie. Perez currently has a role in the show "Minx", and starred alongside Joey King in The Kissing Booth movies.
It was also announced that the role of President of the United States will be played by Uma Thurman. An iconic woman plays the iconic role of the fictional world’s first woman President of the United States.
Other cast members were announced however, their roles have yet to be revealed. The rest of the cast includesRachel Hilson, Clifton Collins Jr., Stephen Fry, Sarah Shahi, Ellie Bamber, Aneesh Sheth, Polo Morin, Ahmed Elhaj, and Akshay Khanna.
The film will be directed by Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew López, who also has writing credit for the film alongside Ted Malawer. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter are producing under their production company. The novel’s author, Casey McQuiston also has an executive producer credit, which may assuage any fears that the film will stray too far from its original source material.
