Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2011) is a live-action movie that is the sequel to the 2010 live-action movie of the same name. In this live-action sequel, the plot is centrally focused on Greg and his older brother Rodrick. Greg breaks the fourth wall in the introduction scene where he shares problems with having two brothers. This live-action sequel is what viewers consider very hilarious with funny moments.
Despite being an amazing sequel, viewers see there is no representation of a minority, as many girls are reduced to minor roles. Angie Steadman does not appear in this live-action sequel, as she is replaced by Holly Hills (Peyton List), the new girl. This shows viewers that while the main storyline is continuous as it takes place one year after the events of the first live-action movie, there is no continuity in Angie’s storyline. The actors who play Greg, Rowley, and Rodrick reprise their roles, as well as the actors who reprise their supporting roles.
Some funny moments include Rodrick’s house party, the horror movie at Greg and Rowley’s sleepover, the chaos at the local church, and Greg and Rowley making a funny video to post on YouTube. The scene where Greg and Rowley try to make a funny video reflects many fantasies about young kids wanting to become popular, rich, and famous by making comedy videos and posting them on YouTube and other social media websites. This is a reference to the first live-action movie where Greg states that becoming a popular student at his middle school is one of his goals. Kids can tell how popular and famous they are by looking at the views, comments, and number of likes on each video they post on the Internet.
The conclusion reflects that while many siblings have conflicts with each other every now and then, they eventually learn to solve their own problems and get along just fine. This live-action movie gives viewers a glimpse of sibling rivalry as part of everyday life. Therefore, this adaptation of Rodrick Rules is considered hilarious among audiences.
